2. Locomotion

Move through virtual spaces with ease. Our system allows your movement direction to be independent of where you are looking, so you can gaze at the architecture while walking straight ahead.

Intuitive Calibration: Use the left-hand trigger to set your forward direction and the right-hand buttons to adjust your height and walking speed.

Visual Navigation: Follow the "green dot" for directions to specific landmarks and use the "blue house" indicator to keep track of North.

Whether you are walking across the London Bridge or wandering through the streets of Paris, you can now explore places in VR together, sharing every discovery as if you were standing side-by-side.

Instructions

Orientation

Step 1. Look down for the center spot and stand on top of it.

Step 3. Press left hand Y button to show, reposition and turn off the message display. Wait for the "AI Ready" message before talking to AI

Step 2. The gray sphere shows the forward movement direction. Set it by pressing the left hand grip to align it with your looking direction.

Information display control

  • Game information and responses are shown as text in the VR game.

  • Press button Y (the primary) button of the left hand VR controller, and the text will be displayed in the user's looking direction. The user can adjust the location of the text in the game by looking at different directions and pressing the Y button.

  • Press Y button 3 times in a row to turn off the text display.

Movement control

  • Forward direction control: Set forward movement direction as the current looking direction in VR by pressing the left hand grip. The gray ball shows the current forward movement direction. After the calibration, the forward movement direction is independent to the looking direction such that the user can look around freely without affecting the movement.

  • Horizontal Movement control:

    • Method 1: Use left hand joystick of the VR controller to move forward, backward, left or right.

    • Method 2: Connect Foottroller (the control box) to Quest headset with Bluetooth. Use operation mode 2 for naturally walk in VR.

    • Method 3: Connect Foottroller to a PC. Run the Foottroller Hub software, which sends Foottroller data and controls to the VR World Tour .

      • Note: First set the Foottroller operation mode to mode 2 for walk in place, then switch the operation mode to the Dev. mode. The forward movement direction will be updated automatically with the pointing direction of the user's right foot.

  • Vertical Movement control: Use right hand joystick of the VR controller to move up or down in the game.

  • Movement speed control: The speed of movement in the game is determined by the joystick or Foottroller inputs and a adjustable ratio that maps the inputs to movement in the game. Press button B (or the primary button) of the right hand VR controller to adjust the ratio to increase the movement speed. Press button A (or the secondary button) of the right hand VR controller to adjust the ratio to decrease the movement speed.

AI powered Interactions

  • Speak naturally to the AI

    • Step 1. Press and hold button X (the secondary button) of the left hand VR controller to start recording voice query.

    • Step 2. Release button X to end the recording, and wait for AI response.

  • Travel to new places: Want to change scenery? Just say, "Take me to Paris," and the AI will transport you there.

  • Ask for directions: by saying, e.g., "show me the direction to the London bridge". When the direction is ready, "Direction Ready" will be displayed in VR. Look for the green dot, which shows the direction of the place.

  • Ask AI Questions: Simply ask, "What is this building in front of me?" or "Show me information about the London Bridge," and get instant answers. The answers will be displayed as text in VR.

Multi-player support

  • Press the menu button on the left hand VR controller to bring up the UI for online gameplay. Configure your avatar, player name, and create or join a playroom.

  • The creator of the playroom control the location and direction guide of the online tour.

  • Other players can join the playroom for a joint adventure using the PC version of the VR World Tour or the standalone VR World Tour App (available in Meta horizon store).

VR World Tour on a treadmill

Foottroller works perfectly on a treadmill for immersive tour experience.

Tips:

  • First start moving forward in VR with Foottroller, then run the treadmill.

  • Put at least one hand on the treadmill bar for safety.

  • On a treadmill, turn physically is not supported. Push right hand thumbstick left or right to change the movement direction.

  • With Foottroller, change the speed of the treadmill automatically changes the speed of the movement in VR.

  • Use right hand buttons B (increase) and A (decrease) to further adjust the movement speed.

Get and use your own free Google maps API key to avoid map service outage

Steps for obtaining a free Google maps API key.

  • Go to Google map developer website https://developers.google.com/maps. Press "Get Started" to create or login to your account.

  • Click "Keys and Credentials" in the Google Maps Platforms console

  • In the page click "Create credentials" and select "API key" in the dropdown list, and your Google Map API key will be created.

Setup the API key for VR World Tour on Quest headsets

  • Connect the Quest 2 or 3 headset to a computer.

  • Find file googleapikey.txt in folder "Android/data/com.jptiinc.vrworldtour/", which can be done with the file manger of the SideQuest application.

    • The debug mode of the Quest headset need to be enabled for SideQuest to connect and make changes on the headset.

  • Save the empty googleapikey.txt file to the computer, and paste your won Google Maps API key to googleapikey.txt.

  • Copy the modified googleapikey.txt file back to the Quest headset, which can be done by dragging the file back to the File manager of SideQuest.
